The New Balance Vongo hits our stores this month. So what makes these shoes different?

Our guest blogger Jacinta gives us her review.

Category: Guidance
Brand: New Balance
Name: Fresh Foam Vongo
RRP: $259.95
Drop: 4mm

What is the BEST feature of the shoe?

That it looks really great while still providing the stability I need and some really plush cushioning.

How does the shoe differ from other shoes you’ve tried or currently wearing?
I also wear the ASICS GEL-Kayano 22 and the Adidas Supernova Sequence, The Vongo differs as it doesn’t have any medial posting – it instead provides support through other ways. It also has a much lower collar around the ankle which I noticed when I first put the shoes on, it was great while running as there was no irritation or interference with my ankle movement.

What type of runs are you wearing the shoes for?

So far I’ve worn this shoe on short runs, as the drop is only 4mm I’m easing into it for longer runs. I really love the cushioned feel and have been wearing it to the gym as well. The shoe provides great cushioning for jumps and is generally just really comfortable.

What are some of the New Features with the shoes?

The Fresh Foam Vongo is a brand new shoe – it uses technologies that we haven’t seen used in a stability running shoe before. It doesn’t have any medial posting – it instead provides support through a number of ways including: A straighter last (the sole of the shoe is quite straight and doesn’t curve much) , overstuffing in the fresh foam midsole on the medial side and two different materials in the outer sole rubber.

Your first run in the shoes – how did it go?

The first thing I noticed running in the Fresh Foam Vongo was the amount of cushioning, they also feel really bouncy and as though I’m getting a lot of energy return in every stride – I think it will be a great shoe for running longer distances because of the high energy return.

What is your final verdict on the shoes?

The Vongo is great – even though it’s using non-traditional methods to provide stability, it is still giving me all of the support I need while being incredibly cushioned providing a high energy return. It’s a great addition to my running rotation and the New Balance range
